Source text - English Global equity markets had a positive month in November with the MSCI World Index rising by 3.2% in local currency terms and all the regions up over the month. Equities rallied on the back of positive macroeconomic data releases, improving earnings, falling recession risk, and tangible progress in the US-China trade negotiation. Global and US manufacturing PMIs stabilised, whilst the Eurozone and the UK disappointed in their latest readings. Although economic data generally remained soft, consumer confidence has showed resilience in spite of dwindling business sentiment. Eurozone consumer confidence rose, bringing it back above its long-term average and reversing October’s disappointing data. Markets also reacted well to a better-than-expected earnings season and US new orders and employment data were encouraging as well. Overall, improvements have kept investors and economists optimistic for a revival of the economy and helped quell recession fears. At the geopolitical level, US-China trade negotiations improved further with the “phase one” of a deal expected to be agreed by the beginning of 2020. The absence of any further escalation of tariffs as well as a generally positive rhetoric bolstered optimism. Meanwhile in the UK, the spotlight shifted to the upcoming general election on December 12th. Overall, November's rally was helped by positive headlines on the trade front and improved economic data.
