Abstract:
رایانش ابری نوعی از سیستم‌های موازی و توزیع شده شامل مجموعه‌ای از کامپیوترهای به هم متصل و مجازی است. برتری رایانش ابری در آینده شبکه‌های همگرا بدون چون و چرا است. این امر دلیل مزایای آشکار ابر همچون رسانه ذخیره سازی با بسترهای دسترسی فراگیر و کمترین نیازمندی به سخت‌افزار برای کاربر نهایی می‌باشد. برخی مسائل مهم در رایانش ابری عبارتند از: مقیاس پذیری، دسترس پذیری بیشتر، تعادل بار، هزینه و عملکرد. در محیط‌های رایانش ابری، هر گاه یک ماشین مجازی با وظایف متعدد بارگذاری شود، این وظایف باید حذف شوند و به ماشین‌های مجازی کم‌بار دیگر در همان مراکز داده ارسال شوند. یکی از مسائل اساسی در این محیط مرتبط با زمانبندی کارها است. زمانبندی کار ابر یک مسئله‌ی بهینه‌سازی NP-سخت است. هرگاه برخی ماشین‌های مجازی سربارگذاری شوند و سایر ماشین‌های مجازی با کارها برای پردازش، کم بارگذاری شده باشند، برای رسیدن به بهره‌برداری بهینه از ماشین‌ها، بار سیستم باید تعدیل شود. استفاده مناسب و بهینه از منابعی همچون حافظه، پردازشگر یک چالش است از این رو، چگونگی زمانبندی کارها مسئله‌ای مهم محسوب می‌شود که تأثیر زیادی در عملکرد فراهم‌کنندگان سرویس ابر دارد. درحالی‌که باید زمان پاسخ و تکمیل هر کار و همچنین هزینه سرویس را حداقل نماید. این مقاله در ابتدا به بیان الگوریتم های زمانبدی پیشین و مراحل زمانبندی می پردازد و در آخر به ارائه به یک روش پیشنهادی با استفاده از الگوریتم زنبور عسل مصنوعی پرداخته می¬شود. در ادامه با کمک شبیه ساز متلب نشان داده می¬شود که روش پیشنهادی ما در مقایسه با چند الگوریتم زمانبندی بهتر عمل می کند.

Abstract:
Cloud computing is a type of parallel and distributed system which is composed of a collection of interconnected virtual computers. Superiority of cloud computing in the future of convergent networks is out of question. This is the reason of obvious advantages of cloud including storage media with unrestricted access and the least requirement for hardware for the end-user. Some important issues in cloud computing are scalability, more accessibility, load balance, cost, and performance. In cloud computing environments, whenever a virtual machine is loaded with several tasks, these tasks must be removed and sent to other virtual machines with low load in the same data centers. One of the basic points in this environment is related to task scheduling. Cloud task scheduling is an NP-hard optimization problem. Whenever some virtual machines are overloaded and other virtual machines are loaded with less task to process, the system’s load must be shed for optimal utilization of the machine. Optimal utilization of resources like memory is a challenge. Thus, how to schedule tasks is considered an important issue that greatly affects the performance of cloud service providers although it has to minimize task completion and response time as well as the cost of service. This article states previous scheduling algorithms and scheduling stages, and in the end, presents a proposed method using honey bee algorithm. In the following, using MATLAB simulator, it will be shown that our proposed method outdoes some other scheduling algorithms.

خشكي چشم يك از شايع ترين علت هاي مراجعه افراد به درمانگاه چشم پزشكي است. اين بيماري كه ناشي از تغيير در كيفيت يا كميت اشك چشم مي باشد مي تواند افراد را در همه گروه هاي سني مبتلا كند اما شيوع آن در افراد مسن تر بيشتر است. به علاوه اين بيماري بيشتر زنان را مبتلا مي كند. علائم اين بيماري ممكن است از سوزش و خارش خفيف چشم در موقع انجام كارهاي چشمي تا ايجاد سوراخ قرنيه در موارد خيلي شديد متغيير باشد.
ترشح طبيعي اشك
وظيفه اصلي اشك چشم مرطوب نگه داشتن و شستشوي مداوم سطح كره چشم و رساندن اكسيژن و مواد غذايي به قرنيه است. اشك چشم از سه لايه تشكيل شده است:
• لايه موكوسي عمقي: اين لايه روي قرنيه و ملتحمه را مي پوشاند و به پخش شدن لايه آبكي اشك در سطح چشم كمك مي كند.
• لايه آبكي مياني: اين لايه قسمت اصلي اشك را تشكيل مي دهد. بخش عمده (98%) اين لايه از آب بقيه آن از املاح و پروتئين ها تشكيل شده است. قسمت عمده لايه آبكي اشك از غده اشكي ترشح مي شود كه در قسمت خارج و بالاي كره چشم زير پلك فوقاني قرار گرفته است.
• لايه چربي سطحي: اين لايه كه از غده هاي موجود در لبه پلك ترشح مي شود روي لايه آبكي را مي پوشاند و از تبخير سريع اين لايه جلوگيري مي كند.
با هر نوبت پلك زدن لايه اشكي روي چشم گسترده مي شود. اشك اضافي از طريق دو سوراخ كوچك در گوشه داخلي پلك ها به داخل بيني تخليه مي شود. (به همين علت گريه كردن باعث آبريزش از بيني مي شود.)
علل خشكي چشم
به طور كلي هر عاملي كه باعث كاهش توليد يا تغيير كيفيت اشك شود مي تواند منجر به بروز خشكي چشم شود. مهمترين عوامل ايجاد خشكي چشم عبارتند از:
• بالارفتن سن: با بالا رفتن سن مقدار ترشح لايه آبكي اشك كم مي شود. به علاوه همانطور كه در افراد مسن چربي پوست كمتر و پوست خشك مي شود، در چشم نيز ميزان ترشح چربي كمتر مي شود و در نتيجه مقدار تبخير لايه آبكي زياد مي شود. كاهش توليد و افزايش تبخير لايه آبكي اشك باعث ايجاد خشكي چشم در اكثر افراد مسن مي شود.
• عوامل محيطي: در محيط هاي گرم و خشك ميزان تبخير لايه آبكي اشك زياد مي شود. همچنين قرار گرفتن در معرض باد شديد و يا هواي سرد و خشك ارتفاعات مي تواند باعث بدتر شدن خشكي چشم شود. استفاده از وسايل گرمازا (مثل بخاري و شومينه) و قرار گرفتن در معرض گرد و غبار و دود (به خصوص دود سيگار) از عواملي است كه باعث تشديد خشكي چشم مي شود.
• كار چشمي طولاني مدت: پلك زدن متناوب براي پخش شدن لايه اشك بر روي چشم ضروري است. در مواردي كه فرد براي مدت طولاني به چيزي خيره شود و پلك نزند (مثلاً در موقع كار با كامپيوتر، تماشاي تلويزيون يا مطالعه) علائم خشكي چشم بدتر مي شود.
• داروها: بسياري از داروهاي معمولي مي توانند باعث كم شدن ترشح اشك و ايجاد خشكي چشم شوند. مهمترين اين داروها عبارتند از:
o داروهاي ضد فشار خون
o داروهاي سرماخوردگي (آنتي هيستامين ها)
o داروهاي ضد افسردگي
o داروهاي قلبي
o قرص هاي جلوگيري از بارداري
o بسياري از قطره هاي چشمي (به خصوص داروهايي كه براي درمان گلوكوم استفاده مي شوند)
• تغييرات هورموني: تغييرات هورموني به علت تغيير دو چربي لايه اشكي مي توانند باعث خشكي چشم شوند. يائسگي، بارداري و قرص هاي جلوگيري از بارداري به علت تغييرات هورموني خشكي چشم را تشديد مي كنند.
• بيماري ها: بيماري هاي مختلف مثل بيماري هاي تيروئيد و برخي از بيماري هاي سيستم ايمني (مثل شوگرن و لوپوس) مي تواند باعث ايجاد خشكي چشم شود.
• مشكلات تغذيه اي: كمبود ويتامين A مي تواند به موارد شديد و خطرناك خشكي چشم منجر شود.
• التهاب لبه پلك ها (بلفاريت): اين بيماري با تغيير در چربي لايه اشكي باعث بدتر شدن خشكي چشم مي شود.
• بسته نشدن پلك ها: در صورتيكه به علت مشكلات ساختاري پلك ها درست بسته نشود مقدار تبخير اشك زياد مي شود و خشكي چشم ايجاد مي شود. به علاوه در مواردي كه به علت مشكلات عصبي (مثلاً پاركينسون) فرد كمتر در حالت عادي پلك بزند خشكي چشم ايجاد مي شود.
• استفاده از لنزهاي تماسي: استفاده از لنز تماسي (كنتاكت لنز) يكي از علل شايع خشكي چشم است. لنزهاي تماسي مثل يك اسفنج لايه آبكي اشك را جذب مي كنند و باعث خشكي چشم مي شوند. به علاوه استفاده از لنز تماسي باعث كم شدن حس قرنيه و كاهش پلك زدن مي شود و در نتيجه توليد و پخش شدن اشك را با مشكل مواجه مي كند.
علائم و نشانه هاي خشكي چشم
گرچه اين بيماري خشكي چشم نامگذاري شده است، اما در اكثر مواقع فرد مبتلا احساس نمي كند كه چشمش خشك شده، بلكه بيشتر افراد از سوزش و خارش و گاهي اشك ريزش چشم ها شاكي هشتند. شايع ترين علائمي كه در خشكي چشم ديده مي شوند عبارتند از:
• سوزش و خارش چشم ها
• احساس وجود جسم خارجي (شن ريزه) در چشم ها
• تاري ديد كه با پلك زدن برطرف مي شود.
• قرمزي چشم ها.
• حساسيت به نورهاي شديد.
• اشك ريزش بيش از حد.
• عدم تحمل لنز تماسي
معمولاً اين علائم در هر دو چشم ايجاد مي شود. شدت علائم در زمان هاي مختلف يكسان نيست و اغلب پس از قرار گرفتن در معرض باد و گرد و غبار، كار با كامپيوتر، تماشاي تلويزيون يا مطالعه طولاني مدت بدتر مي شود.
روش هاي تشخيص خشكي چشم
در صورتي كه به علت وجود علائم فوق به خشكي چشم مشكوك شديد حتماٌ با پزشك مشورت كنيد. به ياد داشته باشيد كه خشكي چشم علاوه بر آنكه احساس ناراحتي ايجاد مي كند در صورتي كه شديد باشد ممكن است باعث ايجاد لك قرنيه و كاهش ديد دائمي شود.
چشم پزشك براي بررسي و تشخيص خشكي چشم از روش هاي مختلف استفاده مي كند:
• مشاهده لايه اشك موجود در سطح چشم با استفاده از دستگاه اسليت لامپ
• رنگ آميزي سطح چشم با استفاده از رنگ هاي مخصوص: اين رنگ ها به مناطق خشك و آسيب ديده سطح چشم مي چسبند و آن ها را مشخص مي كنند.
• اندازه گيري مقدار اشك با كاغذ مخصوص (تست شيرمر): در اين روش يك فيلتر كاغذي مخصوص در داخل پلك قرار داده مي شود و پس از چند دقيقه بررسي مي شود ميزان رطوبتي كه جذب فيلتر كاغذي شده است با ميزان ترشح اشك در ارتباط است.
• بررسي تركيبات شيميايي اشك: در اين روش (كه در موارد خاص به كار مي رود) مقدار املاح و پروتئين هاي اشك بررسي مي شود.
درمان خشکی چشم
بايد توجه داشت كه مشكلات ناشي از خشكي چشم ممكن است بسيار خفيف يا بسيار شديد باشد. در موارد خيلي خفيف ممكن است صرفاً عمل به توصيه هاي كلي باعث بهبود علائم شود. اما در موارد شديدتر ممكن است به اقدامات مختلف درماني نياز باشد.
توصيه هاي كلي
• در طول روز مايعات كافي بنوشيد. اين امر به مرطوب نگه داشتن بافت هاي بدن و از جمله سطح چشم كمك مي كند.
• در مواقعي كه كار چشمي طولاني مدت انجام مي دهيد سعي كنيد به صورت ارادي پلك بزنيد. به صفحه مانيتور، تلويزيون يا كتاب خيره نشويد. هر 5 تا 10 دقيقه يك بار براي چند ثانيه پلك ها را ببنديد.
• از قرار گرفتن در معرض گرد و غبار، يا دود سيگار پرهيز كنيد. در محيط هاي خشك و در هواي طوفاني حتي الامكان از عينك (آفتابي يا طبي) استفاده كنيد.
• در فصول سرد سال كه از وسايل گرمازا در داخل منزل استفاده مي كنيد از دستگاه بخور براي مرطوب نگه داشتن فضاي اتاق استفاده كنيد.
• چشم ها را نمالانيد. ماليدن چشم ها باعث تحريك بيشتر و بدتر شدن علائم مي شود.
• توجه كنيد كه علائم خشكي چشم چه وقت هايي بهتر و چه وقت هايي بدتر مي شود.
• از مواردی از قبیل گرمای بیش از حد اتاق، سشوار، گرد و غبار مصرف سیگار که ممکن است موجب خشکی چشم شوند، پرهیز نماید.
درمان هاي دارويي خشکی چشم
قطره هاي اشك مصنوعي: قطره هاي اشك مصنوعي شايع ترين داروهايي هستند كه در درمان خشكي چشم به كار مي روند و معمولاً علائم خشكي چشم را برطرف مي كنند. در موارد خفيف و متوسط چشم معمولاً روزي 4-3 بار استفاده از قطره اشك مصنوعي براي رفع علائم كافي است. اشك مصنوعي در كارخانه هاي مختلف دارويي ساخته مي شود ممكن است محصولات يك كارخانه خاص با چشم شما سازگاري بيشتري داشته باشد بنابراين بهتر است با مشورت با پزشك خود محصولات مختلف را شناسايي كنيد و فرآورده اي را كه با چشم شما سازگاري بيشتري دارد انتخاب كنيد. برخي از انواع قطره هاي اشك مصنوعي به سرعت از داخل چشم شسته مي شوند و براي مدت كوتاهي علائم را برطرف مي كنند. برخي از انواع قطره ها چسبندگي بيشتري دارند و مدت بيشتري در چشم مي مانند و اثر آن ها تا چندين ساعت پايدار مي ماند. يك نكته مهم آن است كه در ساخت برخي از قطره هاي اشك مصنوعي از مواد محافظ استفاده مي شود. در برخي از افراد اين مواد محافظ باعث تحريك و بدتر شدن علائم چشمي مي شود. بنابراين به خصوص اگر قطره اشك مصنوعي را مكرراً (بيشتر از 4 بار در روز) استفاده مي كنيد با مشورت با پزشك قطره اي را استفاده كنيد كه فاقد مواد محافظ باشد.
• پمادهاي چشمي: در مواردي كه علائم خشكي چشم در موقع خواب هم وجود داشته باشد توصيه مي شود از پماد هاي ساده چشمي قبل از خواب استفاده شود. اين پمادها باعث چرب و مرطوب شدن سطح چشم مي شود. استفاده از پماد در طول روز توصيه نمي شود چون علاوه بر آنكه باعث تاري ديد مي شود اثر قطره هاي اشك مصنوعي را نيز كم مي كند.
• آنتي بيوتيك خوراكي: در مواردي كه التهاب لبه پلك ها و غدد چربي در ايجاد خشكي چشم نقش داشته باشد گاهي استفاده از آنتي بيوتيك هاي خوراكي تحت نظر چشم پزشك مي تواند به بهبود علائم كمك كند.
• استفاده از شامپو بچه: در مواردي كه التهاب پلك ها باعث ايجاد خشكي چشم شده باشد شستشوي لبه پلك ها با شامپو بچه رقيق شده با برداشتن چربي اضافه به بهبود علائم كمك مي كند.
درمان هاي جراحي خشکی چشم
در موارد نسبتاً شديد خشكي چشم ممكن است با اقدامات فوق بهبود كافي ايجاد نشود در اين موارد استفاده از روش هاي جراحي براي بهبود خشكي چشم ضروري است.
• بستن سوراخ هاي خروج اشك: در اين روش سوراخ هاي خارج كننده اشك از چشم به صورت موقت يا دائمي بسته مي شوند. همان طور كه بستن راه آب سينك ظرفشويي با توپي باعث باقي ماندن آب در سينك مي شود با بستن سوراخ هاي خروجي اشك نيز باعث باقي ماندن اشك در چشم و مرطوب ماندن چشم مي شود.
• بستن پلك ها: در مواردي كه فلج پلك ها يا اشكالات ساختماني پلك ها باعث باز ماندن چشم و تبخير اشك شود با بستن موقتي بخشي از پلك ها مي توان سطح تبخير اشك را كمتر كرد و به درمان خشكي چشم كمك كرد.
• پيوند قرنيه: در مواردي كه خشكي چشم شديد باعث ايجاد كدورت يا زخم قرنيه شده باشد ممكن است براي كمك به بهبود ديد نياز به جراحي پيوند قرنيه باشد. البته نتيجه پيوند قرنيه در اين موارد معمولاً چندان خوب نيست.
سایر روش ها
در موراد خیلی شدید خشکی لازم است از خون خود بیمار قطره سرم تهیه شده که به جای قطره اشک مصنوعی قابل استفاده می باشد. این قطره که حاوی مواد مغذی خون بوه و به بهبود قابل توجه خشکی چشم کمک می نماید.
برای درمان خشکی چشم اقدامات بسیار دیگری از جمله استفاده از لنزهای پروز را می توان انجام داد که توسط چشم پزشک برای شما توضیح داده خواهد شد.
خشكي چشم و ليزيك
وجود خشكي چشم مي تواند نتيجه اعمال جراحي اصلاح ديد (مثل ليزيك) را تحت تأثر قرار دهد. معمولاً در صورت وجود خشكي چشم ترميم قرنيه پس از عمل جراحي با تأخير انجام مي شود. همچنين در افراد مبتلا به خشكي چشم احتمال ايجاد عارضه پس از جراحي چشم بيشتر است. به علاوه پس از انجام جراحي ليزيك معمولاً علائم خشكي چشم بدتر مي شود. بنابراين در صورتي كه علائم خشكي چشم را داريد و قصد داريد عمل ليزيك انجام دهيد حتماً در اين مورد با پزشك مشورت كنيد.
به ياد داشته باشيد كه درمان خشكي چشم نه فقط براي راحتي چشم ها، بلكه براي سلامت چشم و حفظ بينايي اهميت دارد.
Translation - English Dry Eye Syndrome
Dry eye is one of the most common reasons making people visit eye clinics. This syndrome, which is the result of change in the tear quality or quantity, can affect all age groups, but its occurrence is higher among the elderly. Moreover, this disease afflicts women more than men. Symptoms of this disease vary from slight itchy and burning eyes while using eyes a lot to corneal perforation in very serious cases.
Natural Lacrimation
The main duty of eye tear is to keep eyes moist and continuously wash the surface of eyeball as well as feed the cornea with oxygen and food. Tear is made up of three layers:
• The Deep Mucous Layer: this layer covers the cornea and conjunctiva and helps the watery layer of tear to spread through the eye surface.
• The Middle Watery Layer: this layer makes up the main part of tear. Most of this layer (98%) contains water, and the rest contains salts and proteins. Most of the watery layer of tear is secreted from the lacrimal gland located outside and above the eyeball below the upper eyelid.
• The Outer Oily Layer: this layer, which is secreted from the glands existing on the eyelid's edge, covers the watery layer and prevents it from rapid evaporation.
Each time a person blinks, the tear layer covers the eye. Extra tear drains off through two small ducts in the inner corner of eyelids into the nose, which is why crying causes a runny nose.
Dry Eye Reasons
Generally, every factor that reduces the production or changes the quality of tear can lead to dry eye. The most important causes of dry eye are as follows:
• Aging: as people get older, the secretion quantity of the tear watery layer decreases. In addition, as the elderly's skin grease decreases and it goes dry, oil secretion in their eyes also decreases and, as a result, evaporation of the watery layer increases. Reduction of production and the increase in evaporation of the watery layer of tear cause dry eye in most of the elderly.
• Environmental Factors: the evaporation rate of the watery layer of tear increases in hot and dry environments. Furthermore, exposure to strong wind and/or cold and dry weather in the heights can deteriorate dry eye. Using heating devices (such as heaters and furnaces) and exposure to dust and smoke (especially cigarette smoke) are among the factors that aggravate dry eye.
• Using Eyes for Long Periods of Time: enough blinking is necessary for the tear layer to spread through the eye. In cases when the person gazes at something for a long time without blinking (for example, while working with a computer, watching TV or studying), symptoms of dry eye become worse.
• Drugs: many of the ordinary drugs can decrease tear secretion and cause dry eye. The most important drugs causing this are:
o Antihypertensive drugs
o Cold medicines (e.g. antihistamines)
o Antidepressants
o Heart disease drugs
o Contraceptives
o Many of the eye drops (especially those used to treat glaucoma)
• Hormonal Imbalances: hormonal imbalances can result in dry eye due to changes in the tear layer's oil. Menopause, pregnancy, and contraceptives aggravate dry eye because of hormonal imbalances they cause.
• Diseases: different diseases like thyroid diseases and some of the autoimmune diseases (such as sjogren's syndrome and lupus) can cause dry eye.
• Nutritional Deficiencies: lack of vitamin A can lead to severe and dangerous dry eye.
• Eyelid Inflammation (Blepharitis): this disease deteriorates dry eye by changing the tear layer's oil.
• Lagophthalmos : if eyelids do not properly close due to structural problems, the evaporation level of tear increases and dry is created. Moreover, in cases when the person blinks less often than normal because of neurological problems (such as Parkinson's disease), dry eye is caused.
• Wearing Contact Lenses: using contact lenses is one of the common reasons of dry eye. Contact lenses absorb the watery layer of tear like a sponge and cause dry eye. In addition, wearing contact lenses reduces corneal sensation and blinking and, as a result, causes trouble in tear production and spread.
Symptoms and Signs of Dry Eye
Although this disease has been named dry eye, the patient does not feel his/her eyes are dry in most cases but complains about itchy and burning eyes and sometimes epiphora . The most commonly observed symptoms of dry eye include:
• Itchy and burning eyes
• Foreign body sensation (like grit) in the eye
• Blurred vision solved by blinking
• Red eyes
• Sensitivity to light
• Overflow of tears
• Difficulty wearing contact lenses
These symptoms usually develop in both eyes. Severity of the symptoms is not the same in different periods of time and often worsen after being exposed to wind and dust, working with a computer, watching TV, or studying for a long time.
How to Diagnose Dry Eye
In case you suspect dry eye because of the symptoms above, make sure you discuss it with a doctor. Keep in mind that dry eye not only causes discomfort but may also result in leukoma and permanent poor vision in severe cases.
In order to examine and diagnose dry eye, ophthalmologists used different methods:
• Observing the tear layer on the eye surface using a slit lamp.
• Coloring the eye surface using special colors: these colors stick to the dry and damaged areas of the eye and recognize them.
• Measuring the amount of tear with a special paper (Schirmer's test): in this method, a special paper filter is placed inside the eyelid and examined after some minutes. The amount of moisture absorbed by the paper filter is related to the tear secretion level.
• Investigating the chemical compounds of tear: in this method, which is used in specific cases, the amount of salts and proteins of tear is investigated.
Dry Eye Treatment
It must be noted that the consequences of dry eye could be either very slight or very severe. In very slight cases, simply following general advice improves the symptoms. In more severe cases, however, a variety of treatment measures may be required.
General Advice
• Have enough drinks during the day. This helps to keep the tissues of the body, and eye surface in particular, moist.
• While using your eyes for a long time, try to blink intentionally. Do not stare at the monitor screen, TV screen, or the book. Every 5 to 10 minutes, close your eyelids for some seconds.
• Avoid exposure to dust or cigarette smoke. Wear glasses (sunglasses or eyeglasses) as far as possible in dry environments and stormy conditions
• Use humidifiers to keep your room moist during cold seasons when heating instruments are used at home.
• Do not rub your eyes. This would stimulate and deteriorate the symptoms.
• Notice when the symptoms get better and when they get worse.
• Avoid factors like overheating the room, hair dryer, dust, and smoking, which may cause dry eye.
Herbal Medicine of Dry Eye
• Artificial Tears: the eye drops are the most common medicines used to treat dry eye, and they usually control the symptoms of dry eye. In slight cases, using artificial tears for 3-4 times a day would suffice to control the symptoms. These drops are produced in different pharmaceutical factories. It is possible that the products of one particular factory have more compatibility with your eyes. Therefore, you had better identify different products with your doctor and select the one with more compatibility with your eyes. Some types of eye drops are quickly drained off the eye and suppress the symptoms for a short time. some other types of eye drops, however, have more viscosity and stay in the eye for a longer period of time and their effect would last for some hours.
An important point is that some artificial tears contain preservatives which stimulate and aggravate eye symptoms in some people. Therefore, consult with your doctor and use eye drops without preservatives, especially if you use them frequently (i.e. more than 4 times a day).
• Eye Ointments: in cases when dry eye symptoms persist while sleeping, it is recommended that simple eye ointments be used before sleeping.
Using ointments is not recommended during the day because they cause blurred vision and lessen the effects of artificial tears.
• Edible Antibiotics: in cases when eyelid inflammation and fat glands play a role in creating dry eye, taking edible antibiotics under the ophthalmologist's supervision sometimes helps to improve the symptoms.
• Using Baby Shampoo: in cases when eyelid inflammation has caused dry eye, washing their edges with diluted baby shampoo helps to improve the symptoms by removing extra fat.
Dry Eye Surgical Treatments
In relatively severe dry eye cases, sufficient improvement may not be reached by abovementioned measures. Using surgical methods is necessary in such cases.
• Blocking Tear Ducts: in this method, the ducts through which tear comes out are blocked temporarily or permanently. As blocking the kitchen sink with a hole cover makes water stay in the sink, blocking tear ducts makes tear stay in the eye and keep it moist.
• Closing the Eyelids: in cases when ptosis or structural problems of eyelids cause the eye to be left open and tear to evaporate, blocking a part of the eyelids temporarily can reduce the evaporation level of tear and help to treat dry eye.
• Corneal Transplantation (Keratoplasty): in cases when severe dry eye has caused keratoleukoma or keratohelcosis , corneal transplantation might be required to improve vision. However, the result of this surgery is usually not very good in such cases.
Other Methods
In very severe cases of dry eye, a serum eye drop has to be produced from the patient's own blood to be used as an artificial tear. This drop contains blood nutrients and considerably improves dry eye.
To cure dry eye, many other actions such as using PROSE lenses can be taken, which will be explained to you by the ophthalmologist.
Dry Eye and LASIK
The presence of dry eye can affect the result of corrective eye surgeries (like LASIK). Normally, if dry eye exists, corneal repair will be done with a delay after surgery. In addition, people suffering from dry eye are more likely to face consequences after eye surgery. Furthermore, dry eye symptoms usually worsen after the LASIC. Therefore, if you have dry eye symptoms and intend to do LASIC, do not forget to consult with the ophthalmologist in this regard.
Keep in mind that curing dry eye is important not only for eye comfort but also for eye health and maintain vision.
