Source text - English One evening last autumn, I sat long hours with a European acquaintance while he expounded a political-economic doctrine which seemed sound as a nut and in which I could find no defect. At the end, he said with great earnestness: "I have a mission to the masses. I feel that I am called to get the ear of the people. I shall devote the rest of my life to spreading my doctrine far and wide among the population. What do you think?"
Translation - French Un soir de l’automne dernier, je restai de longues heures à converser avec un Européen de ma connaissance. Ce dernier m’exposait une doctrine politico-économique qui semblait solide comme un roc et dans laquelle je ne trouvais aucune faille. Quand il eut fini, il déclara avec beaucoup de ferveur : « J'ai une mission auprès des masses. Je sens que je suis appelé à me faire entendre. Je consacrerai le reste de ma vie au plus grand nombre. Qu'en pensez-vous ? ».
