Bio
Freelance French/English translation
- English native tongue
- French - fluent: written, spoken, read
Having lived in France for a number of consecutive years, I consider myself fluent.
I have 2 years professional experience translating various texts, including the legal and financial fields.
Master Traduction professionnelle et interprétation, Université Marc Bloch Strasbourg, France
Études dans des domaines spécialisées (technique, juridique, scientifique, commercial...).
BA Hons French and Philosophy, King's College London
2:1 with distinction in oral French
My first degree included specialised units in both translation and literary translation, in both directions.
I am passionate about languages and communication, and studied modules in Linguistics and the Philosophy of language. Equally, having been a literary/arts undergrad, I am sensitive to the idiomatic and abstract sensibilities of languages and how these can (or can't) be conveyed through literal translation. I love the challenge of striking a balance between recreating the sense and feel of a text in the target language, whilst retaining its foundation in the original text - never straying too far from its grammatical and syntactical roots.
I have also had 4 years experience as an English teacher both in London and abroad. This exposure to different tongues has equipped me with a thorough understanding of the internal mechanics and structures of various languages and how they correspond to one another.
