Don't remember submitting this poll, but it might be interesting to see the results since I get CVs mass-mailed to me all the time, God knows why - which is really aggravating.

Have never done it, would never do it, would never advise anyone to do it, and would blacklist everyone whose CVs are sent this way.

At first, I took the time to read them as I happen to outsource very occasionally (always from and into European Portuguese), but after a while I started sending all these undesired emails straight to the bin. Let’s hope these people read our quick polls!

Once I received from another translator my own CV, slightly modified, but with the same structure and mostly the same text, together with a collaboration proposal. I was beside myself with anger!

... one of them was slightly modified (different name, telephone and email), but all the rest, even the address, had been taken from that of a translator I know quite well. I warned her and she decided not to make her CV public any more.

My CV is short, antique and probably not worth a lot to most scammers (I hope!)
Apart from that, I have taken it off my profile and only send it to potential clients after I have checked that I would probably be happy to work with them.
Before I started translating, I did apply for scores of jobs, with CV attached, but those were always on paper...

I just wanted to make a warning that most CVs sent by email are fake and sent by scammers hoping to get assigned a job to: a) outsource it to a real translator, deliver a translation to the client, and keep all payment (without ever paying the translator); or, b) get upfront payment and then never deliver the translation.

Cases like these are reported often through the Support Center and then made public through the Scam alert center. Site members can subscribe to receive notifications of new scam alerts, and everyone can access the repository of past alerts.
If you are aware of a case where a freelancer's CV is being used by scammers with a different set of contact details, you can contact me to let me know and I will send out an alert. This keeps the contact details used by the scammer in our records, making it easy for potential victims to identify them as scammers.
Additionally, the third-party mailing services that I know of that contact freelancers to "market" their CVs operate in the same way. The most notorious of these operations is the one documented at http://www.proz.com/blueboard/9086

I have a CV, but I rarely use it. It doesn't really contain much more than what is already on my Proz profile or my website, so I only send it if specifically asked.

I voted "other" for two reasons.
1) When you submit your CV to an agency, you don't really know who they are re-sending it to. But you can be sure they will eventually send it to clients (service agencies, sometimes if requested) or to potential employers (every time, no exception).
2) When you send your CV by e-mail, aren't you using a third-party e-mailing sevice?

... after reading the other posts, I think I didn't understand the question. You are talking about mass mailing services, right? In that case, I should have voted "no", "never", "of course not", "no way".
