One of my "heroes" of translation. His "After Babel" is a fundamental text for all translators who are serious about what they do.

RIP

I went to one of his Cambridge lectures... Feb 8, 2020

I can't remember what it was about, but he departed from his script and started discussing the role of clothing in the novel. Except he didn't use those words - he said "vestimentiary iconography". Someone at the back of the room tittered, and then everyone laughed, including him.

Brilliant man, and After Babel is a brilliant book.
