I received the following email and would like to know what the intended purpose of the agency directory and the "Send Email" option is within agency profiles? This button probably wasn't meant for what you used it. Were you sending an unsolicited offer? | | | Dan Mackey (X) United States Local time: 10:23 Arabic to English TOPIC STARTER
Thank you for your reply. Yes, I contacted the agency to introduce myself and invite them to view my profile and my website. If this is not acceptable, then what is the intended purpose of the "Send Email" function? Thank you again for you reply! | | | Sheila Wilson Spain Local time: 15:23 Member (2007) English + ... It can relate to a discussion taking place on KudoZ or in the forums, or an offer of work, etc. On a panel on the right, it says: "Do not use this form to advertise your services." You should use the Companies Directory to offer your services. The directory will tell you how to contact the agency (if they do indeed want you to). I think you can also contact them through the Blue Board, but I'm not 100% sure. | |

In order to get jobs, you should have a great profile that will be found by companies when they look for providers like you. Some companies ask for applications through the Blue Board Offering your own services through the profile email feature is not in line with http://www.proz.com/siterules/general/3#3 The proper use of the profile email is made clear in the corresponding form: Kind regards, Enrique | | | Dan Mackey (X) United States Local time: 10:23 Arabic to English TOPIC STARTER Mea culpa :( | Feb 27, 2017 |
I sincerely thank you for your replies and I am embarassed for overlooking the clearly stated warning to not advertise. Mea culpa! The silver lining, though, is getting helpful feedback and guidance from you more experienced translators. In any case, it's better to assemble your own list of outsourcers and contact them directly. You can also use lists of members of agency associations such as http://www.atc.org.uk/ and https://www.euatc.org/, these are a rich source of information. But you should then contact them directly, after visiting their website to see how they want to be contacted. Almost all agencies have a link on their website to a page providing instructions on how to become one of their translators. Some will accept being contacted by email, but nowadays most want you to register your details in a database on their website. In the latter case, sending an email may not serve any purpose. ▲ Collapse | | | Lingua 5B Bosnia and Herzegovina Local time: 16:23 Member (2009) English to Croatian + ... As far as I know, you can visit an agency's official website, and use their web contact form to apply or contact them. However I believe that nobody likes unsolicited offers and the response is generally very low (may depend on the language pair though). Yes, when sending a ProZ email/message there's a "job" option but that would relate to a specific job already arranged or advertised. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Why can't we inquire for work with agencies via the directory?
