Copyright is not just about copying, so it doesn't matter that it's "pas la réelle copie du livre." Copyright includes several different rights: copying, publishing, and translating, for instance. Without a license from the copyright holder, you are not supposed to translate it (although of course for educational or personal purposes you could do so, and as long as you don't distribute or publish it, you're not likely to have any legal problems). Without a license, you DEFINITELY cannot publish it in any way (paper or electronically), even non-commercially or for free.

If you do get a license (permission) from the author, or copyright holder (sometimes the publisher holds the copyright), then you own the copyright in your translation. In other words, no one else can publish, distribute, etc. your translation.

Here is an overview, in French: http://www.bmenonavocat.com/droit-dauteur-quelques-notions-de-base/

If you get a license, you can fix the errors in your translation. The author may also be interested to know about these errors so that she can fix them in the next edition.
