I have 2 questions.
How to ignore red text in an xlsx file in cafetran?
Is there any filter, option or menu for that?

My second question is about ignoring hml codes.
Cafetran automatically reads some of html codes and transforms the texts which nhave html codes automatically.
But I dont want cafetran to do this.
Is there any solution for ignoring all html codes in a text?

Thanks for helps in advance,

Clipboard workflow for selected text Jul 2, 2014

Hello Ali,

CafeTran does not ignore either a colored text and a html format as it imports the text from Excel cells for translation. If you wish to translate only selected chunks of text in Excel cells, please consider an alternative Clipboard workflow designed for such scenarios (http://cafetran.wikidot.com/using-the-clipboard-workflow).

Delete! Jul 2, 2014

Delete both, using Find/Replace, as described here:

Open the spreadsheet.
Check Track Changes.
Delete the cells you don't want to translate
Save.
Translate in CafeTran
Export.
Open in Excel.
Reject All Changes.

Cheers,

Hans

What if the file already has tracked changes by other users? I think in that case only the changes made by the last user (translator) should be rejected.

Finding & deleting all red text may be difficult in huge files. ASAP Utilities helps here: Select > Select cells based on content, formatting and more...

But it will be time consuming if different shades of red were used.

ASAP Utilities is great but I still prefer built-in filter options in CAT tools (e.g. memoQ, Deja Vu X).

Too many ifs? Jul 3, 2014

Selcuk Akyuz wrote:

But as Igor himself confirmed above, CafeTran doesn't provide this particular filter. And CT doesn't have to, because the procedure I mentioned above will do the trick nicely in almost all cases. And it works for all MS Office files, not only Excel files. And it works for all things you want to hide, including highlighted text, the part another translator will take care of, you name it.

Now if the file is huge, if the file already has tracked changes, if the file shows Fifty Shades of Red, and if you don't want to use other tools, you can decline the job. Not a bad idea to decline Excel files as a rule anyway.

Cheers,

Hans

Further development of the XLSX filter Jul 3, 2014

I would also welcome a new XLSX filter.

What other wishes would you have, regarding CafeTran, Selcuk?

Dejavu X3 interprets some xml and html codes.
I dont know how to prevent Dejavu from doing this.

Cafetran also interprets xml and html codes itself.
Not all codes but it is enough to ruin the whole coded text.

No idea, my version is almost 6 months old and my license expired. I will upgrade but first buy a new computer with 16GB RAM. CT does not work well with limited RAM.

An up-to-date and official help file will be great but there is only one Igor.

CafeTran gurus and the developer himself already posted here, perhaps it is better to send Igor a test file.

For DVX3 this video may help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2PUtObxsp8

Try again? Jul 4, 2014

You may want to try again, Selçuk. The trial version will do. Igor "improved memory handling," and now a 2GB DGT TMX file uses 2GB, rather than the 6GB it used to be.

Cheers,

Hans

In excel files with colored texts using find and replace function changes the color of whole cell.

For example if we have a text in blue color, and there is only one word (for example "apple") in red color,
finding and replacing that "apple" will change all text together.
All colors gone and I am getting only black colored text.

Do you have any suggestion for preventing this?

Coloured nothingness? Jul 4, 2014

Ali Bayraktar wrote:In excel files with colored texts using find and replace function changes the color of whole cell.

I don't think you can possibly know, Ali. The idea was to delete cells with red text, as per the original question. So replace with nothingness, and nothingness is colourless, as far as I know.

Cheers,

Hans

Nothingness or not, if you change a part of text in a cell by using find and replace function, the rest part's color also changes.
You may try it yourself.
Take colored text and try to delete part of this text in a cell, and you will see that by deleting you also change the rest part's color.

M. Ali

Yes. You change, I delete.

And thanks for all the fish.
