Hi,

Does anybody know of an organization that reviews (for free or for a low fee) book translation contracts to make sure the contract includes fair clauses for the freelancer? I would like to know if something like that exists or whether I would have to pay a lawyer to do this every time.

Thanks.

Best,

Annette

Recommendation: Paula Arturo, Lawyer and Translator Sep 11, 2018

Hi Annette!

I take it the contract is drafted in English?

You can find her on ProZ: https://www.proz.com/profile/56170 or here: https://themuses.biz

writer's or translator's associations Sep 11, 2018

Writer's and translator's associations usually give (free) guidelines on contracts with publishers ; they can also offer a consultation with a specialist lawyer, free with membership or for a reasonable fee, to check a specific agreement.

Society of Authors Sep 11, 2018

If you are in the UK, and an author and/or translator member of the Society of Authors (including the Translators Association), the SoA offers such a service. I have found them to be excellent: https://www.societyofauthors.org/

Apologies - I see you are in Panama. I'll leave this here, though, in case it helps someone else. Perhaps you can find an equivalent organisation in your country.... See more
