Yes, many clients assume too many things-- this is true, and they expect the translator to be a magician, if some recordings are totally hopeless.I agree that you don't need a transcript for subtitling -- it is absolutely unnecessary for regular movies, unless it is some kind of a criminal investigation. I think the clients and even many agencies have to be educated about many things related to translation, subtitling, interpreting, etc., because many seem not to know that much at all about thos... I recently quote very badly because I was not aware of this things! so I ended almost doing a free work! definitely worth reading it to avoid many mistakes!
