The last 3 years it has been 16 a month as an average. They were a mix of big and small jobs.

Maybe I should add that I issue an invoice for every job separately, and the 16 invoices may just be for 5-6 different clients.

Absolutely no idea.
Seriously, dont we have better things to do than count how many invoices we are sending out per day / month / year.

No wonder these anonymous pols are anonymous.

5 to 6 on average with one exception: August (16). In total last year I have sent 89 invoices representing a mix of big and small jobs.

2-5 but also payslips Jan 15, 2017

I issue about 4-5 invoices a month but two clients also issue their own payslips to me whenever I do work for them.

Because all invoicing is done within my clients' translation management system and there is no need to actually print out, sign and pop invoices in the post. This is how it should be done.

It varies a lot Jan 15, 2017

My mix of domestic vs. international jobs is completely random-ish. I can only do so much in a month, and my clients only need as much translation work as they need at that time.

Specifically "invoices" are for international jobs. Sworn translations (regulated by law in Brazil) require a specific receipt that is supposedly audited now and then. Specifically "invoices" are for international jobs. Sworn translations (regulated by law in Brazil) require a specific receipt that is supposedly audited now and then. As an established freelancer, when the client is a company, I have to issue another specific kind of receipt, covering tax & social security dues deducted at the source. Individual clients usually want nothing, the bank's slip is enough evidence that they paid me.

On the other hand, some jobs get clustered in one same invoice. Large jobs occasionally get split into parts, with their corresponding invoices. One frequent client overseas needs one invoice for each job, regardless of its size, so their amounts invoiced vary from 1 to 4 digits in USD.

Therefore, the number of invoices & alikes I issue per month, on top of being random, is irrelevant.

Monthly invoices Jan 15, 2017

Whilst accepting that some poll subjects are somewhat banal, taking two minutes to submit a reply is not too demanding. I find most of the statistics quite interesting although a bit more background information would be preferable e.g. why do so many people state that they send out so few invoices, large individual projects or not enough clients? The questionnaire does not provide enough possibilities for providing such details.

how many you send per year, as you are required to number them.
I just had to modify my accounting system by adding more invoices - the original one had 200 per year, and I exceeded that number last year. This despite the fact that I issue monthly invoices to most clients. But as I translate some rare pairs, I do a lot of small jobs for a large variety of clients.

I originally chose 2 -5, but it actually varies a lot. For example, this month I've already issued five bills, but at least two of them were held over from last year, because the companies or institutions had closed their accounting or run out of funding for the year. By the end of this month I may have issued another four or five...
There's probably someone I've forgot to bill for something too... It wouldn't be the first time...

In fact, the poll query piqued my curiosity and I just checked (I have to do admin this week anyway). I issued 14 bills in the last quarter, which works out at somewhere between four and five a month, which probably pans out roughly the same over the year.

And Eva's response to Michael prompted me to check my 2016 billing. I issued 69 invoices in total over the year, so the yearly average is just under six.

I send out one invoice per client at the end of each month, mostly for several relatively big jobs.

Neither, necessarily Jan 16, 2017

Neither one nor the other.

I don't regularly handle particularly large projects (definition up to you) nor do I have too few clients.

One actually sends me anything between 15 to 50 jobs of varying length during the month so the obvious solution is to bill everything at month end - and probably a great many reading this do exactly the same.

So far, this year I have issued 11 invoices and I expect to issue about 15 more by the end of the month.
Las year I issued 252 invoices because some clients want an invoice per project. In very few cases I can send an invoice for more than two projects.

15 in 2016 Jan 17, 2017

The average was 15 in 2016. I actually counted them to see. 180 in 12 months. Though I started with 7 in January and 10 in the following three months, so this number is increasing. And I didn't calculate the average in previous years, which was likely lower.
