I like this poll Jul 3

I answered "same apartment".
You know, a couple of years ago my husband gave me a very nice pair of slippers for Christmas. When I asked why he had chosen this gift, he replied: "I thought you could use some new work shoes".
In fact, we have an ongoing joke about my "work clothes".
Have a nice day!

Seven paces Jul 3

I have long legs and take big strides, so it could be more for others. My office is just across the hall from the bedroom. Very convenient.

About 1 metre from the bed. Jul 3

Until recently I was living in a villa, with a large garden and pool, which I shared with a friend. However, after about 9 months he decided to go back with his ex and left me with a high rent that I couldn't afford to pay on my own. As a result, I'm now renting a tiny room (with no air conditioning) in another friend's house in the city until I can find something with a bit more space, or someone to share a villa with, as I know of several available but they are all too expensive for me to pay on my own right now.

The funny thing is, even in the villa I had my office in my bedroom that way I could work late at night or early in the day without disturbing anyone else.

BTW Anyone interested in sharing a villa about 30 minutes from the centre of Valencia, Spain, can get in touch through my ProZ.com profile.

Same room Jul 3

After reading the question, and before reading possible replies I have glanced at the distance between my bed and my desk to see if it's more or less than 1 meter.

It's less

42 stairs steps above Jul 3

In my house, I have to climb exactly 42 stair steps to reach my workplace from bed. I do this many times a day as the kitchen is on the lower floor where food and coffee is prepared.

2 workplaces Jul 3

A nice poll

I have 2 workplaces actually: one is next to my bed, only two or three steps further.

The other is in the living room. I love this place so much, I can drink, eat, watch TV, keep an eye on my kids while they're playing and stare into my garden at the same time!

2 meters Jul 3

which is more then it used to be, I just moved to a bigger place. I try to keep work away from my bedroom and my "office" is in the living room, 3 steps away from the kitchen. This is a thing I do love about my job, working in my pajamas, working nights instead of days if I feel like. The bad part of it is that the office never closes.

I work throughout the house Jul 3

I do have an official office space with a desk (which is on a different level of the house), but I actually work at that desk less than 10% of the time, I'd say. Sometimes I do work in bed, sometimes I do work at my husband's desktop, which is in the bedroom. A lot of time I work at the coffeetable in the living room, sometimes at the dining room table, sometimes outside in the gazebo--I even sometimes work when we're on the road and my husband is driving.

I know a lot of people say that having an office with a door you can shut is key for a home-based worker, but as the parent-on-duty for kids who are of only semi-independent status, it doesn't really work well that way. If my attention is needed--and it will be needed!--I'd rather already be there in the hub of things rather than getting dragged away from my hidey-hole to take care of things. I generally only hole up in my office when I'm on deadline pressure and my husband is around to "hold down the fort" in the main part of the house.

8 floors Jul 3

Funny poll
My flat is in the 2nd floor and my small office is on the 10th. If I return, I do not work at home. It's simply impossible. This is the beginning of the second (third) shift: washing, ironing, children, etc. (I have 4). As there is the same telephone number, anyway the clients find me any time and the kids finally get used to this situation.
Sometimes I can go upstairs early morning with my coffee, as the office is the only one place where I can smoke and have 5 minutes of silence
Have a nice day, Liza

Three places Jul 3

For more than ten years I used to work at home in a tiny office. Then, my psychologist and my physician urged me to find an office out of the house. So, I have a new office that is about 1/2 from home, where I spend most of the day and night. Some nights and weekends, I continue working on my tiny home office. Depending on the job, I also work in my bed despite recommendations that I should use the bed only to sleep, not for other purposes (I hasve serious sleep disorders).

From one floor to 100 miles Jul 3

I work both as an interpreter and translator, so I do about half of my work from home, when I translate and when I interpret in phone hearings/conferences. My office is downstairs, my bedroom is upstairs.
When I interpret on site, though, I drive (of course!), and I have done assignments as far as 100 (or more) miles away.
Furthermore, it so happens that sometimes I'm on the go, but I know that I'll have time in between hearings, so if I have to finish translation work, I'll take my laptop with me to work outside of the house. That would be anywhere with wi-fi, to have access to online resources (which include our dear Kudoz).
So this distance concept is quite impossible to define in my situation.

Same house! Jul 3

My workplace is near the fridge! I can't afford to rent an office. Should I get someone to share rent and other expenses I may rent a small office.
