Le origini di Positano, come quelle di tante altre città, si perdono nella notte dei tempi ove si confondono storia e legenda. Come spesso accadeva in passato, alla mancanza di dati si sopperiva con miti, uno di questi vuole Positano fondata da Poseidone, il dio del mare, per amore della ninfa Pasitea.
Il paese si sviluppa in senso verticale, seguendo il ripido pendìo delle colline che scendono verso il mare. Le abitazioni, addossate le une alle altre, sono tinte in sgargianti colori dando una immagine d'insieme come una pietra preziosa dalle mille sfaccettature, che causano mutevoli riflessi multicolori.
La sua felice posizione geografica la colloca nel baricentro di un territorio tra i più ameni e ricchi di storia e di bellezze naturali. Durante il periodo estivo una serie di feste patronali, tra le quali ricordiamo quella del 2 luglio a Montepertuso e quella del 15 agosto a Positano, e manifestazioni culturali come il premio internazionale per l'arte della danza, in onore del grande coreografo e ballerino Leonide Massine allietano le serate rendendo ancora più piacevole e suggestivo il soggiorno in questa ridente località denominata "la gemma della divina costiera".
La piazza principale è intitolata a Flavio Gioia, che agli inizi di 1300 inventò la “buxidia”, oggi “bussola”, staordinario attrezzo essenziale alla navigazione, il cui nucleo è costituito da due parti: una solida con un raggio di dodicimila chilometri e l'altra, esterna, fluida ed in costante movimento quello stesso che genera il campo magnetico.
Grazie al loro innato senso di ospitalità i positanesi, rappresentati dal primo cittadino Domenico Marrone, hanno saputo conquistare e mantenere uno dei primi posti tra le più rinomate località turistiche del mondo intero e non solo in campo turistico ma anche nella moda. Infatti le innumerevoli botteghe ed eleganti boutique, che costellano le vie e i vicoli, soddisfano tutte le esigenze di una clientela cosmopolita.

Like many other cities, the origins of Positano lose themselves in the mists of times where history and legend are confused. As has often happened in the past, one is satisfied with myth in the absence of information. One of these myths says that Positano was founded by Poseidon, the god of the sea, for the love of the nymph, Pasitea.
The town evolves vertically by following the steep hillsides that slope down towards the sea. The houses, one pinned to another, are painted in showy colours, and create a whole picture like a precious stone that evokes all-changing multicoloured reflections from a thousand facets.
Its happy geographical position places it in the barycentre of a territory among the most pleasant and richest in history and natural beauty. During the summer period, there is a series of patron saint festivals, among which we remember the one held on 2nd July at Montepertuso and the one on 15th August at Positano, and cultural manifestations, such as the international award for the art of dance in honour of the great choreographer and dancer, Leonide Massine, making the evenings more enjoyable and evocative for a stay in this joyous area named "the gem of the divine coastline".
The main square is named after Flavio Gioia, who invented the “buxidia”, now “bussola” – or compass in English – at the beginning of the 1300s. It is an extraordinary piece of equipment essential for navigation. The nucleus is made in two parts: a solid with a radius of 1200 kilometres, and the other external part is fluid and in constant movement that generates the magnetic field.
Thanks to their innate sense of hospitality, the people of Positano, represented by the mayor, Domenico Marrone, have known how to win and maintain one of the premier places among the most renowned tourist areas in the whole world, not solely in the tourist field but also in the fashion world. Indeed, the numerous workshops and elegant boutiques, which shower the roads and alleyways, satisfy all the needs of a cosmopolitan clientele.

Verificare che il chiamato s/s non riceva il tono di controllo chiamata.

I specialise in cook book translations and editing due to over six years experience gained in a book publishing environment. During this time I have translated and edited many cook books for international publishing houses in the USA, UK and Italy. Given that I am based in Italy, I have worked predominantly on Mediterranean material, although my interest and experience does extend geographically into other areas and also into other fields. I have also attended a Cordon Bleu cooking course to better understand actual cooking processes. I have been trained to edit cook books in both British and American English.
I have also worked as a senior editor in humanities books for the secondary school market and have considerable knowledge of geography, history, religious studies and travel and tourism , which I have applied in translations.
