Bio
If you want your translation to be more than just “technically correct”, you are in need for a translator who not only has an excellent command of English and Latvian and substantial amount of translation experience but also lots of intercultural exposure and practical background in business, communication, education and other fields, and I might be just the person you are looking for.

Having said that, I am no stranger to technical and legislative texts either. Having translated over 9 000 pages for European Commission’s DG TRAD and DG ENTR as well as for The European Parliament, CAT tools and termbases are not alien concepts to me.

My top four fields of expertise are:

1. The current affairs of the European Union including draft technical regulations and general legislative acts that have been at the core of my professional endeavours as a translator.

2. Communication science within the much broader context of social sciences has been the field of my academic interest and education. Studies at Ithaca College (NY, USA) and University of Latvia towards BA in Communication Science have led to a profound understanding of public relations, advertising and journalism matters as well as general semantic equilibristics of language as “the most important sign system”. Books about philosophy, psychology and religions I eat for dessert.

3. Music business. Combining my thorough musical education and professional experience (voice, piano, conducting, arranging) with skills in communication, I spent years in a management position in the music industry. Drafting contracts, press releases and marketing copy as well as maintaining a web presence became a second nature and provided with an in-depth knowledge of various business aspects.

4. Food and gastronomy, including the closely related fields of nutrition and general health, captured my interest while living in London. After studying professional cookery at Westminster Kingsway College (the Alma Mater of Jamie Oliver) and a short stint in some of London’s finest restaurant kitchens, I now have nine translated cookbooks under my belt and a couple of cake recipes of my own that draw in large crowds at my wife’s cafe.

I also have a trained voice and sound recording equipment, which I am not afraid to use for voice-over and dubbing work. I have lent my voice to numerous radio and television ads as well as several corporate training videos in my day. Although I am a native Latvian, I can also be quite persuasive in English and Russian.

My recent self-education ventures have led me to the magical land of web development, so a working knowledge of HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript comes in handy for website localization. I always take extra care to:
- read and follow instructions;
- never miss deadlines;
- actively seek feedback from editors reviewing my work to learn from my mistakes;
- try never to make the same mistake twice and
- only hand in work that I consider reasonably perfect.

33 books and over 15 000 pages of other texts translated over a course of 10 years, and I will be honoured to work with you on your next most important project!
