I am a court-qualified interpreter of Portuguese <> English, and fomerly a certified public school English teacher for grades 7-12 in Connecticut, USA. I have been interpreting in the CT courts, Federal courts, depositions, Workers´ Comp, Immigration and other legal matters, as well as in medical appointments, since November 2005 for various agencies and numerous law firms. I have taught English and Spanish in CT Public Schools, and private schools. I have a B.A. in English Literature, 9 credits towards a Master of Library and Information Sciences, and an honorary D.Div in Comparative Religion and Mythology, which I have also taught. I studied French as a minor, including courses at the graduate level at Purdue University, having ¨tested out¨ of several credits due to earlier studies, and have been speaking French for over 20 years. I received ¨A´s¨ in my French courses to the graduate level. I am the creator, lead developer and maintainer of Linguas OS, a GNU/Linux system for translators, the creator of TransProCalc - Free/Open Source Translation Management Tools, and am currently the localization coordinator for Omega T, an open source CAT program. I build my own computers from parts, and write little programs for fun in my spare time. I have experience translating legal articles, various types of contracts (labor, construction, sales/purchase, service contracts, etc.), government forms, medical articles (specifically in regards to diabetes, as I am diabetic), psychology articles, clinical protocols, pathology reports, professional correspondence, housing related documents, health supplement and skin care catalogs, various marketing materials, tourism and travel related literature, religious texts, press releases, web sites, and more. I am an Open Source Software (Software Livre) user, and have experience with Mac OSX, Windows 98, 2000 & XP, and Linux systems. As a teacher I provided professional development to my peers in regard to internet technology use in the classroom and web page creation. Recent projects I have completed include: * various articles for the Spanish Journal of Psychology related to topics as broad as Alzheimer's Disease, ADHD, the affects of mercury poisoning on aggressive behavior in fish, and other topics. (PT>EN) * Various correspondence for parents and families from Lee Public Schools, Lee, MA. (EN>PT_BR and EN>ES). * Herbalife Brazil´s Group Manual and other training materials. (PT>EN) * Various tourism/travel related materials for Center Parcs, France. (FR>EN). * A Theoretical and Practical Guide to Oscillators (ES>EN). * numerous contracts, sales contracts, service contracts, labor contracts...any variety of contracts, but especially those pertaining to technology sale/service, such as the installation of robotic surgery devices, installation and maintenance of computer networks, and similar matters. * Countless documents pertaining to patents and/or patent infringement cases for medical devices. Also on my translation team, my beautiful, brilliant wife, Amélia Costa-Baldwin, is a former school teacher from Brazil. Amélia speaks Portuguese, Spanish and English fluently and provides translation of English or Spanish to Brazilian Portuguese. Together we have put together a great team of providers spanning Canada to Argentina, working in English, French, Portuguese and Spanish, if we can't translate your project, we can manage it. We've found some excellent professionals, with whom we thoroughly enjoy collaborating. Our collaborators are all also highly experienced professionals, several are attorneys, others are software developers, and we even have a biochemist in the mix.
