As David says, it is hard to find an exact equivalent. This is for an international audience so I had to go with something general. Many thanks to all of you.

assistant associate practioner

Explanation:
This seems a term in French medical law. The "practioner" in the following French reference is an MD. The English literal translation would be as above. I haven't found this whole term, but offer it as a suggestion.

neutral  liz askew: I think this is a "faux-ami" in French.//In that case "associate practitioner" is equally questionable. You have to look at your TARGET country audience, and understand the legal French term too to get the correct English!

-> I take your point. However, we have a case of bi-juralism. The French legal term may not have a literal equivalent outside France.

neutral  Conor McAuley: Not one of my subject areas, so I'm not voting, but the spelling should "Practitioner". This much I know. In terms of "rank", this answer sounds about right.

NOTE:

I think you should think very carefully before translating your query as "associate practitioner".

You need to be clear of what the defintion is in French, first.

I believe that "practicien" = [hospital] consultant, based on my above reference, and based on many others I could send you.

"Associate Practitioner" in the UK NHS is something else to that defined in the French reference I have supplied

See these UK refs:

Associate Practitioner
What will my role as an Associate Practitioner be?
 You will deliver care to patients under the direct supervision of a registered practitioner, such as a qualified nurse in community or acute care.
 You will develop the level of knowledge and skill beyond that of the traditional healthcare support worker.
 This new role will involve working at a higher level than existing healthcare support workers and will ultimately involve taking some tasks from registered nurses.
Why does the NHS need Associate Practitioners?
 The NHS requires innovative and creative approaches to the supply of staff at all levels
 A key component of the challenges of supply of staff is the introduction of this new worker
 The Associate Practitioner role will deliver high quality care to patients and provide opportunities for existing and new staff to develop an interesting and varied role.

In my mind a "practicien associé/attaché" is more highly qualified in France than in the UK and would work under the supervision of a consultant, i.e. "Junior Doctor".

Also NOTE

a general practitioner in the last reference = a GP/family doctor - In French this = médecin de famille/médecin généraliste and NOT "practicien"!
