In an older study, Freeman (1995) notes that English-speaking settler societies such as the US, Canada, and Australia have been characterized by their histories of open immigration, planning, and regulation, as well as by densely organized webs of interest groups contesting immigration policies. Even though it has been 17 years since the publication of Freeman’s article, his work seems to have a prospective value, since most of his considerations are still valid in 2012, as we shall see below.
Freeman appreciates that the typical mode of immigration policies in these countries is client politics or liberal democratic immigration politics, formulated at a general level.

Ибо 'иммигранты' рассматривались как 'клиенты' -- поскольку (i) 'клиент' прав 'всегда', то если (ii) 'клиент' 'НЕПРАВ' --> см. пункт (i).

В настоящее время результаты такой политики можно наблюдать каждый день в информационных выпусках новостей из самых разных стран, которые ее проводили, начиная с 1990-х годов.
