Hi
I just bought a new Vaio with windows 7 as my old one broke.

I would like to reinstall my Trados 6.5 which is on CD.

I can´t do it cause it works only with vista or XP
How can I use it on windows / without buying the new version of trados...

Thanks a lot

Troubleshoot compatibility Nov 29, 2009

Hi,

If you right click on the installation file, you will see troubleshoot compatibility.

Then it will offer you the recommended settings for installation.

Hope this helps

Certain upscale versions of Windows 7 have a compatibility mode Nov 29, 2009

... meaning they can emulate XP and probably Vista. That might work (if you happen to have gotten the right version of 7).

Compatibility mode Dec 4, 2009

The WIN XP compatibility mode of Windows 7 is available in its affordable Professional version. Watch out for a System Builder version of this (at least in Germany we have this option to buy a fully functional version with no printed manual for considerably less) or upgrade your existing version of 7 to Professional by buying a software key (the latter approach might be rather expensive).
The IT magazines say any software that used to run under XP will do so in 7 XP compatibility mode.

For this to work, your PC's hardware needs to support virtualization.

Installing Trados 6.5 on Windows 7 Jan 1, 2010

I have exactly the same problem. My WIN7 version is "Premium Familial". The installation process fails during the installation of NET Framework.

Did you found a way to fix it?

XP virtualization Jan 2, 2010

Yes. Not a fully perfect one though.
I have installed my old XP in a virtual machine (Virtual Box) for both my Trados 2006 and Oxford English Dictionary. I might upgrade the both of them in the future, but at the moment I'm not yet convinced about the ROI that this would generate.

Afaik Windows 7 pro including a virtualized XP requires a computer that supports virtualization (which my computer doesn't apparently) and is a more expensive version, while Virtual Box is free, works on most computers and lets you use your current XP license if you have one (not oem).
It's not hard at all to set up and works perfectly (I have been using this solution for a long time on my Linux computer). The drawback is that it takes a good deal of memory, since the computer runs two OSes at the same time, but if you have over 2Gb it will be fine.

Hello everybody,

I am joining this forum with the hope one of you has a solution to my problem.

I just bought a new machine working under Win 7 Pro (64-bit).
The installation of Trados 7 having failed under Win 7 (64-bit), I installed a virtual machine with XP (called Windows XP Mode) on which I could install Trados 7, BUT could not pass the licence recognition step.
Trados 7 refuses to validate my licence (file "licence.lic") and instead tries to find a "FLEXlm" licence (which, according to my understanding is remotely validated).

Has anybody of you encounter the same situation, and if so what have you decided?

I was thinking about dual booting (Win 7 / Win XP) but after a week of investigation and talk with experts, is not an out-of-shelf thing and apparently requires the use of Win XP distribution (not "reinstallation") disc which is not anymore sold by Microsoft.

What a mess!

I thank you in advance to let me share your experience.

Regards.
