約二年前人事室王故主任澄銓和我偶然聊到英文書信的撰寫及翻譯，他認為英文寫作的原則首重簡約，王主任隨手拿出桌上的國際先驅論壇報(International Herald Tribune)說這是他每週必讀的功課，因為該報記者撰文的特色正是簡約，接著要我閱讀其中一篇反恐的文章，仔細端詳，果真文句簡單且毫無生字。王主任接著說「一般人認為英翻中比較容易，其實要做到信達雅那就非得要有深厚的中文底子才行」，然後他轉身從櫃子的資料夾中取出一份略為發黃的剪報影本送給我，並說這是他最欣賞的一篇翻譯。這篇剪報就是資深音樂傳播學者趙琴為中央日報聽歌學英文專欄所寫的〈夏日最後的玫瑰〉，文中包含了此首歌曲的中英對照翻譯。
