Astrid Elke Johnson (Allemagne), AEJohnson Translation Services (Specialist intellectual property translator)
Bio: I have a background in the legal field, among other things having been employed for over 6 years by a firm of lawyers involved in intellectual property.

Due to the nature of the translations which I undertake, which have to be extremely accurate, quality assurance is a very important issue for me and I have had to develop the most stringent quality assurance procedures possible. Many of the translations that I undertake in Court cases make reference to translations, and cases are even contested, for example, on the basis of an erroneous translation of the other party. Therefore, I am constantly involved in this issue.

I hope that, in outlining and explaining my quality assurance procedures, which have served me well to date, I will be able to assist others in tackling this issue, at all levels.

Mary Moritz (France), Wordstyle Traductions (Precise and professional translations)
Bio: An American who has lived in France since 1994, I have a BS in Theater Arts. Before leaving the US, I worked real jobs by day (banking, brokerage services, marketing, insurance) for money and took to the stage by night. I eventually began to write my own pieces and performed original monologues with a several troupes throughout the Boston area. Like many an expatriate, falling in love led to the great adventure of moving to another country. For several years I juggled between my new life in France teaching English as a foreign language and performing in the US. My life settled down after the birth of our first child in 1997, and I was offered the possibility to work as a translator for educational software. During my maternity leave for our second (and then third) kid, my creative itch was overwhelming me, and I discovered a writing workshop in my area. Nervous to express myself in a foreign language, I was nevertheless welcomed very warmly by the group (grammatical errors and all) and have been writing with them for 6+ years. With all my children in school now, I’m back into translating at a freelance level.

Ralf Lemster (Allemagne), RLFT GmbH
Bio: Multi-disciplined experience turned into profession
Ten years of investment banking experience with Dresdner Bank AG - with a focus on trading and sales of a variety of interest rate, FX and equity products - have formed the solid foundations for my experience in the financial markets.

Four years based in London gave rise to the opportunity to pursue an interesting and very exciting second career. In 1994 I began to do specialist translations related to the financial markets. Clients became more and more interested. I chose translation as my future profession.

I have been fully independent as a translator since 1997, having passed the state examination for English in the same year. I am a sworn translator (ermächtigter Übersetzer) and thus able to certify the correctness and completeness of translations. The permanent contact to the markets is assured thanks to my parallel activities as a functional trainer for electronic exchange platforms.

I serve as a ProZ.com moderator, covering Jobs and the BlueBoard, as well as various forums (Money Matters, SDL Trados Support, German forum).
